San Antonio captures the spirit of Texas.  Now the eighth largest city in the United States, this city has retained its sense of history and tradition, while carefully blending in cosmopolitan progress.  The city has always been a crossroads and meeting place.  Sounds and flavors of Native Americans, Old Mexico, Germans, the Wild West, and the Deep South mingle and merge.  Close to twenty million visitors a year delight in the discovery of San Antonio's charm.  The USS Duncan 2008 Reunion events will provide the opportunity to experience some of the city’s top attractions.  The city tour will take you to the famous San Jose Mission, the Alamo, El Mercado, and the San Fernando Cathedral.  Don’t miss the group dinner at the Ranch, as well as the day trip to Fredericksburg with time at the National Museum of the Pacific War.  There is so much to see and do in San Antonio; we are allowing plenty of free time during the reunion to visit the attractions that interest you the most.

   

Hotel Information

 

The reunion officially begins on Wednesday, November 5th and ends on Sunday, November 9th.  You will be staying at the full service Holiday Inn El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel which is located at 110 Lexington Ave., San Antonio Texas, 78205.  The hotel is located on the famous Riverwalk; close to many of the area’s most popular attractions.

 

Reservation Information

 

The room rate is just $109.00 plus tax per night.  The rate includes complimentary continental breakfast served daily in the hospitality room.  For those of you who choose to arrive early or stay late, the same room rate is available three days prior and three days after, based on availability.  Please make your hotel reservations NOW by calling the hotel directly at the following numbers 800-972-3480 or 210-223-9461 between 9am-4pm CST and ask for in-house reservations.  Be sure to ask for the USS Duncan Reunion rate.  You may request specific room types when you call to make your reservations (handicap accessible room, etc.).  The hotel check-in time is 3:00pm.  Please, do not expect to get into your room before then.  Make your reservations NOW, you may cancel your hotel room up to 72 hours prior to arrival and not be charged.  They will ask you for a deposit or credit card number to guarantee your room reservation.  The hotel is holding rooms until they sell out or September 19th, 2008, whichever comes first. 

 

Airport Transportation & Parking

 

If you are flying to the reunion, San Antonio Airport (SAT) is the closest airport.  Taxi service is available from the San Antonio airport to the hotel, the cost is approximately $30-$35 each way.  Transportation is also offered by SA Shuttle.  The cost is about $18 each way, and about $32 round trip.  SA Shuttle can be reached at 210-281-9900.  For further information check their web site www.saairportshuttle.com.

For those of you driving to the reunion a special discounted parking rate of $8 per day, for self parking, has been negotiated for the duration of the reunion.  Travel safely and we’ll ….
